Green tip: Green Halloween
Make this Halloween a green one:
– Find old decorations, swap with a friend, or use what you have to make your own. Avoid synthetic webbing that wildlife can get caught in.
– Hand down costumes, make your own with reused materials, or trade for one new-to-you. Attend or organize a costume swap, or check your local feeds for costumes. You can also use materials you have to come up with creative ideas.
– Look for treats that are fair-trade or locally made, or offer allergen-free non-edible items that are made of natural materials or recycled like stickers, wooden toys, small stones, pencils and more. Kids can gather treats in pillowcases or reused bags. Trick or treat by walking rather than driving.
– Look for organically grown, local pumpkins to carve. Turn seeds into snacks, and insides into stock. Turn your carved pumpkin into a bird feeder or compost it. Uncarved pumpkins can be pureed and frozen for later.
– Having a party? Use the city (or your school’s) Zero Waste Party Packs of reusable dishes. Pick up any candy wrappers – they go in the landfill. Compost leftovers.

Join us for a family-friendly celebration at the Palo Alto Lucie Stern Community Center Ballroom. Activities include:
– Open Mahjong play for all levels, with coaching available
– Lantern-making workshop (lantern giveaway for the first 100 pre-registered attendees)
– Mooncake tasting
– Yummy snacks available for purchase: milk tea, fish balls, mochi muffins, and more
– Live music performance
