PTA Council Health and Wellness: Health and Wellness Tip: Student Supports
What kinds of supports do students and parents have at school and after?
- At school, students can visit their wellness center (middle and high schools), or their school therapist or psychologist, as well as their teacher/counselor for any issues.
- Students age 13+ can also access TBH online 24/7 through Classlink for group or 1:1 coaching as well as videos on specific topics
- After school, visit allcove centers (for activities and therapy), the Teen center (for fun, safe activities), YCS (for service opportunities)
- Looking for a therapist for your child or yourself? Find one through CareSolace (free for PAUSD families)
- For grief related counseling, reach out to Kara.
- To talk to your child about suicide and recognize warning signs, see page 55 and 63 of this Toolkit: https://sprc.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/AfteraSuicideToolkitforSchools-3.pdf
- Experiencing a mental health crisis? You can call 988 to be referred locally to help, or text HOME to 741741.

Green tip: Sort Sustainably
The school year’s begun, and it’s time to sort that trash. A reminder:
- All food, paper cups and plates, milk cartons, stained paper food trays, bamboo stirrers, and utensils with the words “compostable” go in the GREEN Compost bin.
- Clean paper and cardboard, aluminum foil, all metal, electronics, and hard plastic go in the BLUE Recycle bin.
- Plastic utensils, granola and snack wrappers and bags, plastic wrap, and anything else unidentifiable go in the GRAY Landfill bin.
If you’re not sure, ask! When in doubt, it’s better to keep things out of recycling because a food-soiled paper item can cause bacteria to grow in there. You can also check the What Goes Where tools: https://www.paloalto.gov/Departments/Public-Works/Zero-Waste/What-Goes-Where/Toolkit
Try it for yourself – when you get a coffee cup, put the stirrer and cup in the GREEN bin, put the plastic lid in the BLUE bin. Got a bag of chips? Empty the remaining chips into the GREEN bin, then put the bag in the GRAY bin.
Set an example and teach your kids to keep our schools clean and our planet green.
