The Palo Alto Council of Parent Teacher Association (PTAC) is in communications with the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD). Here is what we know. Over the weekend, all PAUSD school sites (public areas and bathrooms) were cleaned and wiped down. Teachers are receiving, will be receiving, or have already received cleaning supplies to wipe down their classrooms.
Palo Alto High School and JLS Middle School are open. No PAUSD school is closed. Please continue to send your children to school. Schools will remain open. Unless there is case confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and in consultation with Santa Clara County Health Department, our Superintendent shall make the announcement to do otherwise.

The Palo Alto Council of Parent Teacher Association (PTAC) is taking action. We are in communications with all PAUSD school PTAs and PTSAs, regional PTAs, State PTA, as well as local community based organizations to share information, develop coordinated family based plans, and collaboratively monitoring school specific community emergency response and related activities for pandemics. Our schools are being cleaned and surfaces being wiped down. More action is anticipated.
The PTAC fully supports the decisions of our Palo Alto Unified School District leadership. We applaud the district wide communication sent to all families and staff about the two (2) affected PAUSD students and two (2) schools. This was done in a timely, transparent, and respectful manner. We applaud the many teachers, staff, administrators, and district personnel who are working hard behind-the-scenes.
Coronavirus is a respiratory virus that is highly contagious. COVID-19 is not specific to any race, nationality, or ethnicity. Similar to other school districts that have reported persons with possible transmission, PTAC advocates for safe space for reporting and that students and staff do not experience harassment or stigmatization as a result of concerns about the COVID-19 virus.
